Tackling deforestation and restoring landscapes starts with knowing where to look.<\/p>\n
Digital tools, such as GPS-powered tablets, enable us to make polygon maps of all the farms in our supply chain.<\/p>\n
We also intend to work with the World Resources Institute\u2018s Global Forest Watch initiative, which provides satellite imagery and machine learning techniques to identify\u00a0forest change at a very fast pace.<\/p>\n
Our farm polygon maps are overlaid with their recent satellite data of forests and protected areas to see if deforestation has potentially taken place in our supply chain.<\/p>\n
Without this technology, it will be very difficult in many cases to see where and when deforestation might have happened.<\/p>\n
